Refurbished gallery opens at Subiaco Museum
Ahead of its 50th anniversary in November 2025,
Subiaco Museum has unveiled its refurbished permanent exhibition space to the community.
This marks the museum’s first refurbishment since its opening in the 1970s, with improvements including upgraded lighting, new interactive and engaging displays, new audio-visual elements, improved presentation of items and signage to share the stories behind exhibits, and replacement of ageing cabinetry.
Mayor David McMullen said the refurbishment will pave the way for a more innovative museum facility.
“These upgrades will allow museum staff and volunteers to create more in-depth, interactive, and flexible exhibitions spanning decades of local history that people of all ages can enjoy.
“Whether you’re a regular visitor or have never been before, come and visit the museum’s new space to gain a unique perspective of our suburb’s rich history, heritage, and stories.”
A special reopening event held on Saturday 16 August included a look at the refurbished space, a bingo game and prizes.
Planning is well underway for the museum’s 50th anniversary, which will include a family-friendly birthday party, an evening soiree celebrating museum donors, volunteers and supporters, and a series of special events celebrating 50 curated treasures of Subiaco in the month of November.
