Recycle e-waste and batteries properly
With an increasing rate of turnover of electronics in the house – whether it’s phones, computers or televisions – there is an inevitable increase in e-waste.
While this may seem unavoidable, City residents are encouraged to recycle right when it comes to e-waste and batteries to prevent waste truck and facility fires, divert waste from landfill, recycle materials for new products, and avoid hazardous waste from harming others.
The State Government has banned the disposal of e-waste in landfill. Many materials in common electronics can be recycled or reused to give them a second lease on life with huge environmental benefits and economic advantages.
The City is a member of the Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) which means residents can drop of much of their e-waste at the
West Metro Recycling Centre in Shenton Park for free including computers, hair dryers, microwaves, mobile phones and printers (view the full list of accepted items
here).
Dead batteries can also be taken to the West Metro Recycling Centre, or participating Bunnings, Woolworths or Coles stores (find drop-off points
here).
The metals inside will be recovered, and they'll be given a new life as tools, computer parts, or brand-new batteries.
For more on how to recycle different items, head to the
Recycle Right website or call the WMRC Recycling Hotline on 9384 6711.
