The City of Subiaco celebrated NAIDOC Week with a range of activities across the city.
Last Wednesday, members of the Subiaco community gathered for a traditional flag raising and smoking ceremony, led by Noongar Elder Freda Ogilvie. The flags were raised by representatives from Subi Kids Crew. Following the ceremony there was morning tea provided in the Administration Centre.
Proud Noongar woman and artist, Seantelle Walsh, added to the celebration by painting the front doors of the Administration Centre earlier in the week. The message of this year's theme Get up! Stand up! Show up! will remain vibrantly decorating the doors for the rest of the month.
We held special school holiday NAIDOC Week art workshops at Subiaco Library, including a session with musician Brent Matters, and a Noongarts and Crafts workshop with Belinda Cox that provided an introduction to Dreamtime stories.
Thank you to everyone who has joined us during NAIDOC Week.
