Subiaco Library is introducing a Mandarin Storytime this week for children aged 3-12 years.
The bilingual Storytime session will include Mandarin storytelling with simple translations in English, one or two Mandarin phrases, singing in Mandarin and a cultural experience provided by the Confucius Institute from UWA.
Sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of every month from 3.30pm to 4pm with the inaugural Storytime taking place Wednesday 6 April.
The City prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming, and hopes these sessions will help children from all backgrounds experience stories in a different language and learn some Mandarin phrases.
They are free to attend but bookings are essential. Sessions will be listed on the City’s event calendar with full details.
If you’re interested in learning new a language or want to read something that’s in a language other than English, Subiaco Library has a permanent collection with items for all ages in a range of different languages, as well as online e-resources to help you learn a new language from home.
The library also runs English Conversation Club every Tuesday morning for those wanting to practice their English skills in a safe, friendly and encouraging environment.
