Insights from our latest FOGO survey
Last month, the City of Subiaco and WMRC set up shop at the Subi Farmers Market to give away some compost and find out how confident residents felt about using the 3-bin FOGO system.
Our survey results revealed that 90% of residents felt satisfied with FOGO and the majority demonstrated a high level of knowledge on how to sort their waste, scoring over 80% in this section.
Despite these positive results, there was some confusion about how to sort specific items – here’s what had residents stumped:
Aerosol cans
These are classed as Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and should not be placed in any of your City-provided bins.
These can be dropped off for free at the West Metro Recycling Centre. To find out what other waste materials are classed as HHW and should not be placed in any of your City-provided bins please

Long life milk containers
The long-life milk containers cannot (currently) be placed in your recycling bin in WA (because of the aluminium lining inside it), so pop these straight in your general waste bin.
Rope
Materials like ropes, hoses and strapping can become entangled with other materials and with the sorting machinery itself, causing contamination and increasing the risk of mechanical breakdown.
You can dispose of rope in your general waste bin.
