Homelessness Week 2025 in review
The City hosted a number of events and activities to support Homelessness Week 2025 - here's a look at them.
First up, on Monday 4 August, Subiaco Library hosted a panel event that brought together around 50 attendees and featured speakers from the City, the Department of Communities, and The Salvation Army.
Executive Director of the Office of Homelessness (Department of Communities) Gayle Mitchell spoke about the importance of place-based interventions and introduced the new Find My Way online portal, launched this year to connect people with homelessness services across WA.
Manager Cultural Services Elizabeth Connolly shared the City’s new Community Safety Framework, highlighting its focus on people, prevention and place. She also spoke about expanding outreach efforts in partnership with The Salvation Army.
Chairmay and Brett from The Salvation Army Outreach Team – who deliver the Subiaco Engagement Assertive Team (SEAT) walk-in service at The Third Place each Wednesday – discussed local support services and explained the By-Name List, a real-time, person-centred tool that helps track and assist people experiencing homelessness.
The event included a powerful video message from a SEAT client named Murray and concluded with an engaging Q&A session.
On Wednesday 6 August, a special SEAT Day for Homelessness Week was held. The City of Subiaco provided a morning tea of cakes and pastries, and Nando’s Subiaco provided lunch as part of their Nandonation program.
Services on hand to assist those in need included:
- Orange Sky provided a laundry service
- Homeless Health Care referred individuals to services on the day
- Office of Homelessness were in attendance to add people to the By Name List
- i24S attended to provide Return to Country support for intrested parties.
The City will continue to work collaboratively with service providers, WA Police, neighbouring inner city local governments and more broadly across the Perth metropolitan area to work towards sustainable solutions to address homelessness and reduce the risk of homelessness.
