The first of the SubiPOP (Public Open Places) public realm upgrades will commence in early 2023, after Council awarded the construction contract for Postal Walk at its meeting last night.
Postal Walk is the first component of initiatives being undertaken to improve the public realm in and around Rokeby Road.
The design improvements include a large deck to protect the root system of the extant Ghost Gum (Corymbia aparrerinja), re-treatment of the four existing planter boxes, installation of new garden beds with native plantings, new lighting and replacement paving.
Mayor David McMullen said, “The renovations to Postal Walk are the first part of our ongoing streetscape improvements throughout the City.
“Upgrades to public spaces have been shown to have a significant impact on the community’s sense of ownership of space and connection to place.
“We want to ensure that our streetscapes and public places are providing maximum benefit to our community, and we look forward to seeing our visitors and residents connecting in this revitalised meeting place.”
Construction work on Postal Walk is expected to commence in early 2023.
The City thanks RAC for supplementing the City’s capital works budget through the Reconnect WA initiative. RAC’s Reconnect WA initiative aims to create vibrant streets and public spaces for Western Australians to interact and connect with each other.
