Diner en Blanc comes to Subi
On Saturday, hundreds of people clad in white took over the iconic Subi Oval, transforming it into an alfresco dining scene of epic proportions.
Diner en Blanc – the global culinary phenomenon – revealed the secret location of the DIY urban picnic just hours the evening of festivities began.
Previous locations in WA have included Russell Square, Elizabeth Quay, Supreme Court Gardens, Yagan Square, Fremantle Prison and Optus Stadium.
Mayor David McMullen said playing host to this major event is a sign of a thriving economy, and Subiaco's reputation as a destination.
“The secret is out, with the City having played host to this popular event at Subi Oval over the weekend,” he said.
"Le Diner en Blanc is a global phenomenon; and Subiaco is in good company, joining the alumni of 80+ unique worldwide locations that have held their own Diner en Blanc".
“On our busy calendar of events, variety is key. This year, new one-offs (such as Le Diner en Blanc, and our Street Art Festival 'No More Blank Walls') have complemented the return of our much-loved Subi Blooms festival; Subi Spritz; and market offerings in the form of the Subi Farmers Markets, the popular Subi Night Market, and the Pre Loved Market. The net result for our community is a vibrant Subiaco; and a City that is a destination of choice".
This was Diner en Blanc’s ninth event in Perth and sponsored by See Subiaco, a City of Subiaco initiative.
