Could your home be more energy efficient?
Subiaco Library’s DIY home energy audit kit has been borrowed 30 times since it was introduced in April 2025 – and it remains available free of charge to help residents better understand their household energy and water use.
The kit contains practical tools for checking how efficiently different parts of your home are performing, including:
a thermal imaging camera to identify draughts and gaps in insulation
a plug-in energy monitor to measure the energy use and running costs of appliances
a flowrate measuring cup to check how much water taps use
a thermometer for checking room, fridge, and freezer temperatures.
An instructional manual explains how to conduct the tests safely and includes tips for reducing energy and water use.
The results can help households identify simple changes that may improve comfort, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower energy costs – from sealing draughts and adjusting appliance settings to making more informed decisions about future upgrades.
The kit is available for loan from the Subiaco Library.
