City staff support International Women's Day

The recently opened Subiaco Museum shop sells a range of items, including jigsaw puzzles, magnets, and beautiful handmade jewellery designed by Noongar artist Buffie Corunna.

Buffie’s earrings are currently on display at the museum shop, and after a few City of Subiaco staff members browsed the shop after it opened, the earrings started to fly off the shelves, with a lot of City staff wearing them to work each day.

To mark International Women’s Day 2023, some of these staff members had the chance to meet with Buffie while wearing a range of her stunning pieces.

Manager Cultural Services Polly Banks said, “Buffie’s earrings are absolutely beautiful – it’s no surprise they’ve caught the eye of so many of our staff and members of the general public.

“The museum is very proud to showcase wares from this incredible artist, and we’d encourage everyone to visit the shop to browse these beautiful pieces, and more, from a range of local producers.”

Of her designs, Buffie Corunna said, “All of my pieces are titled with a Noongar name and they each have a story to tell. It is important for me to continue to use Noongar language and keep it alive and strong.

“It has been wonderful having my products in the museum shop. I have had lovely feedback and I am ready to restock again, so that is the best news I could ask for.”

Subiaco Museum shop is open at the same time as the museum – Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 4pm, and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Read more about the shop and museum here.
