City of Subiaco’s Photographic Award welcomes new judge
The City of Subiaco’s Photographic Awards are back for 2026 with a new judge; the award-winning Garry Sarre, who has more than 40 years of experience across advertising, fashion, commercial and portrait photography.
Garry joins a judging panel comprised of Subiaco-based photographers, and says, “It’s nice for Subiaco photographers to be judging this year. It’s a cliché, but Subiaco is certainly where my heart is.
“I’ve lived here for over 30 years. My kids and grandchildren have gone to school here, and so I’m looking forward to the first time judging very much.”
When it comes to budding photographers, Garry’s advice is simple. “If you choose something that you love to take photos of, there’s going to be a lot of people that see that love through your images. Whether it’s flowers, people, or pets, follow your heart and others will probably follow with you.”
Garry will join photographers Robert Frith and Stef King for the award, which last year received a record number of 1250 photographs entered.
Mayor David McMullen described the awards as a highlight on the City’s cultural events program.
“The City’s Photographic Awards continue to grow each year, and 2026 will be yet another celebration of local talent, judged by a panel of experienced local photographers.
“The awards provide a unique opportunity for photographers of all ages and different skill levels to share their unique perspectives through a lens. I encourage anyone with a passion for photography to get involved this year.”
There are four categories in the award; Nature, People and Portraits, Open, and AI, and this year, more than $5000 of prize money will be awarded across the following categories:
Grand Prize: $1,500
Nature Category Prize: $800
Open Category Prize: $800
People and Portrait Category Prize: $800
AI Category Prize: $800
Subiaco Resident’s Prize: $500
Youth Prize (aged 12 to 17 years): $300
Kid’s Prize (under 12): $200
People’s Choice Award: $100
