City of Subiaco unveils a celebration of arts and culture
Last night, the City of Subiaco marked a milestone in its commitment to arts and culture with the launch of its second edition of
ARTFORM magazine, hosted in partnership with creative placemakers SPACEMRKT.
The launch event, which took place in a newly activated space called the Hayside Gallery at 484 Hay Street, welcomed more than 200 guests including featured artists, industry leaders, and local businesses.
During the event, guests previewed the 90-page
ARTFORM publication and explored the transformed gallery space, which has been activated as part of the City’s partnership with SPACEMRKT. The gallery’s current exhibition is titled ‘Tension’ and features a curation of works by acclaimed artists including Kate Dolan, Ivan Shaw, Kartika Lali Ahmad, Sam Bloor, Stephen Brameld, Jay Staples, Disordinary, and FDO Studio.
The second edition of
ARTFORM dives deep into the rich tapestry of Subiaco’s creative community; celebrating new commissions like the No More Blank Walls Subi street art festival and ephemeral Mother’s Day public artworks. The publication also uncovers unique local stories, from the lost art of stained glass to the quirky legacy of Wembley Ware.
Guests were also treated to a light projection by Sohan Ariel Hayes, live music by
Heavier Situations from the Perth International Jazz Festival and refreshments by local venues Juanita’s and FOUND Brewery.
Mayor David McMullen said, “Unveiling the second edition of
ARTFORM alongside SPACEMRKT’s latest activation, the Hayside Gallery, was a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate art in Subiaco.
“The partnership with SPACEMRKT is a continuation of the City of Subiaco's investment in culture, arts and activation; and our ongoing promotion of the role that creativity plays in making Subiaco a community and a destination of choice.”
SPACEMRKT Director Sarah Booth also shared her enthusiasm for the partnership.
“We’re proud to be part of this celebration of Subiaco’s creative identity. SPACEMRKT purposely creates spaces for possibility and connection – bringing art, artists and community together in exciting and unexpected ways.”
The Hayside Gallery is open to the public during select times and days, with a program of hands-on workshops and events to be announced soon.
ARTFORM is available in print across Perth including at galleries, museums, local cafés and City of Subiaco venues, and is also accessible online via
