The City is proud to announce it’s been shortlisted as a finalist in the Most Accessible Communities WA Awards 2024.
The nomination is for accessible services and events such Sensory Rhyme Time, Dementia-Friendly Library Services and the sunset@subi concerts which include an Auslan interpreter at each performance.
The Most Accessible Communities WA Awards are a celebration of recognition of local governments that demonstrate they have creatively exceeded minimum legislative access and inclusion requirements, showcasing their commitment to their communities.
Mayor David McMullen said the City of Subiaco is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, accessible community.
"We’re constantly exploring ways to ensure people living with disability have full access to our services and events, enabling them to participate fully in all aspects of community life," he said.
"As part of this commitment, we’ve launched several initiatives such as Sensory Rhymetime at Subiaco Library, dementia-friendly library services, and accessible events like the sunset@subi concert series – all designed with accessibility, inclusion, and equity at their core."
"Whether we claim the top spot or not, the work we’re doing here in Subiaco is so worthwhile because it helps improve the quality of life for many."
The awards are run by the Regional Capitals Alliance WA in conjunction with the Department of Communities, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Western Australian Local Government Association.
The award ceremony will be held on 5 December.
