Battle of the bagpipes at Subiaco Oval this April

The Australian Pipe Band Championships are marching onto Subiaco Oval on Saturday 11 April 2026, marking the first time in the past 30 years that the event has taken place in Western Australia.

On the day, audiences can experience the incredible sounds and pageantry of hundreds of bagpipers and drummers performing on the oval for a unique ‘battle of the bands’ experience.

Pipe bands will travel from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and even Singapore to go head-to-head against six Western Australian bands across a variety of categories and grades.

The event is also a Highland Gathering, with athletes competing in Highland Games such as tossing the caber, putting the stone, hammer throws, and tug-o-war. There will also be demonstrations of Scottish Country Dancing and stallholders featuring Scottish arts and crafts.

Mayor David McMullen said Subiaco Oval is the perfect location for this unique event.

“An event of this scale provides an exciting opportunity for audiences to experience the sights, sounds and traditions of pipe bands and Highland culture right here in Subiaco. Come and enjoy the spectacle, and stay awhile to enjoy our bustling cafes, bars, restaurants, and the Subi Night Market from 5pm, just a short walk from the oval.”

The event is proudly supported by the City of Subiaco.
