The City's Ada Street greening project is officially open to the public!
Ada Street runs between Redfern and Heytesbury Streets in Subiaco, and the project involves a reimagining of the street surface, tree planting, and traffic calming to encourage safe driving behaviours.
A key benefit of this project is a reduction of temperatures by increasing summertime shade, which will help combat the urban heat island effect.
Other project benefits include:
- New seating
- Australian native plantings
- Protection and retention of existing trees
- New garden beds in verges
- Stormwater capture in garden beds, minimising stormwater runoff
- A bird nesting box.
The City worked collaboratively with surrounding residents to develop the concept design for the street, and invited the community to have their say in May 2024.
