Subi Blooms x Gather, Subiaco’s annual Mother’s Day weekend flower festival and a key destination event for the City, won big at the 2026 National Economic Development Awards for Excellence.
The festival took out the award for Economic Development Marketing and Promotion at a ceremony in Tasmania last night, recognising the destination marketing campaign that promoted the 2026 festival which transformed Subiaco’s town centre with large-scale floral installations from 8 to 10 May.
The campaign promoted Subi Blooms as not only a festival, but as a complete visitor destination event, encouraging people to explore Subiaco’s local businesses, dining, accommodation, public art, and cultural attractions while following the floral Blooms trail.
The team utilised innovative marketing strategies, including embracing user-generated content, expanding visitor journeys through public art activation, and leveraging original content created by festival partners. The campaign, as a result, strengthened the national profile of the festival, and saw economic development benefits for the City that have expanded beyond the festival weekend.
City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen commended the City’s Economic Development and Place team on this national recognition.
“Events like Subi Blooms put Subiaco on the map. They attract new visitors and encourage our community to come out and support local businesses and experience everything our City has to offer.
“This latest national award recognises the strength of this year’s marketing campaign for Subi Blooms 2026, and the initiatives that continue to extend the event’s reach year after year.”
