City to reintroduce pre-booked bulk hard waste collections

The City is set to reintroduce a pre-booked bulk hard waste collection service, via the Verge Valet system, giving residents greater flexibility while also delivering cost savings and improving street amenity.

At its Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 20 October, Council endorsed engaging the Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) to deliver the service, which would provide residents with two collections per year.

The decision follows a tender process for the City’s existing set-date bulk hard waste collection service, which did not receive a suitable submission.

Given current market conditions and the lack of a viable proposal, the transition to an pre-booked bulk waste collection was determined the most viable and practical option to ensure continuity of service.

Under the pre-booked Verge Valet model, residents will be able to arrange collections at a time that suits them, rather than waiting for scheduled, City-wide collection dates.

The City already offers a resident-booked Verge Valet service for pre-booked bulk green waste collection.

Moving to a booking-based system is also expected to improve street safety and amenity by reducing the time hard waste remains on verges.

Before disposing of unwanted goods, residents are urged to consider selling, donating, gifting, recycling or upcycling them. By keeping valuable materials in use for longer and sending only unavoidable waste to landfill, we can all help reduce waste and support a more sustainable community.

The Verge Valet system for hard waste collections will be available to residents in the coming months. Stay tuned on the City’s website and Facebook page for more information.
