Bike Month returns this October, with the City hosting three fun events for children of different ages and riding abilities.

Learn to Ride sessions for children will be held on Wednesday 7 October from 9am to 11am at the Nicholson Road Reserve tennis courts.

Across two consecutive one-hour sessions, children aged 4 to 12 can build their confidence and learn to ride. Bikes and helmets will be available to borrow. The event is free, but bookings are required. Register for Learn to Ride.

Young riders aged 9 to 13 who can already ride can put their skills to the test at the Free Range: Holiday Bike Mission on Friday 9 October from 9am to 12pm, meeting on the grass outside Subiaco Museum.

Participants will become bike couriers, using maps, radios, and run sheets to complete missions in crews. Please bring a helmet and a bike with two working handbrakes. Register for the Holiday Bike Mission.

For the City’s youngest community members, Bike Month Storytime will be held on Friday 23 October from 10.15am to 11.30am at Rankin Gardens.

Children aged under four can enjoy books, games, and bubbles. Arrive at 10.15am to try balance bikes provided by People on Bicycles before Storytime begins. Helmets will also be provided.

There will be a craft activity, too – bring a bike, scooter, or helmet to decorate. No bookings are needed. Find out more about Bike Month Storytime.

City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said Bike Month gives children of different ages and abilities the opportunity to build their skills and confidence on two wheels.

“Subiaco’s compact neighbourhoods, connected paths, and proximity to schools, parks, shops, and other local destinations make cycling a practical and enjoyable way to get around.

“It’s good for the environment and good for health and wellbeing, so we want to get kids riding early.

“Our Bike Month events will help children learn to ride safely and confidently,” he said.
