The City’s Homelessness Week 2026 program brought community together to learn more about homelessness while connecting people in need with practical support, essential services, and a welcoming community.
Here’s a look at the events.
Community talk builds understanding
On Monday 3 August, almost 50 people gathered at Subiaco Library for a free community talk with Ruah Community Services.
The event explored the challenges of homelessness and how individuals and communities can be part of the solution, with powerful insights shared by a presenter with lived experience.
Attendees also made generous donations to Ruah and acknowledged the value of hearing directly from someone who had experienced homelessness.
Support and connection at The Third Place
On Wednesday 5 August, a special Homelessness Week SEAT walk-in was held at The Third Place.
The City hosted a morning tea, followed by a Nando’s lunch and movie screening, with Nando’s Subiaco donating 60 meals. A range of visiting services was also available to help attendees access financial assistance, laundry and clothing services, accommodation support, referrals, and other practical assistance.
Support provided throughout the day included 204 food provisions, 153 beverages, 60 clothing provisions, 28 instances of information and advice, 18 referrals, 11 instances of advocacy, 10 showers, hygiene products, and phone assistance. Eleven people also accessed Orange Sky’s laundry service.
These activities complement the City’s ongoing support at The Third Place, including the weekly SEAT walk-in service and weekly roving assertive outreach service delivered in partnership with The Salvation Army.
The City will continue to work collaboratively with service providers, WA Police, neighbouring inner city local governments and more broadly across the Perth metropolitan area to work towards sustainable solutions to address homelessness and reduce the risk of homelessness.
