The City of Subiaco’s ‘The Box’ video series has been recognised at a national level as a finalist in the Australian Marketing Institute’s 2026 Marketing Excellence Awards in the Sustainability and Purpose-Driven category.
The video campaign, which was produced by the City’s Communications and Engagement team, aimed to showcase how everyday acts of kindness and recognition contribute to positive workplace wellbeing, and was timed to coincide with WA Mental Health Week 2026.
The series involved surprising City employees on camera with heartfelt letters written by colleagues who wanted to recognise their value, and was promoted across the City’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as internal communication channels.
The campaign generated more than 70,000 video views in its first week, more than 1,400 interactions, and overwhelmingly positive audience sentiment, with comments including “This was beautiful, and especially important for a municipality to see Councils consist of real people serving the community”, and “What a fantastic initiative that shows the power of genuine appreciation and vulnerability!”
A post-campaign survey found that 100 per cent of City staff who participated reported that taking part positively supported their mental health.
Mayor David McMullen congratulated the team on this nomination.
“‘The Box’ has been an incredibly successful video series on the City’s social media channels.
“It's a fine example of the creativity and innovation of the City of Subiaco's Communications and Engagement team; and national recognition is thoroughly deserved by this team.”
The award winner will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney in September 2026.
