OAM recipient and passionate community volunteer Marion Gathercole is celebrating a special milestone for her monthly ‘See Subi on Sunday’ walking tours with a special 25th anniversary tour through Rankin Gardens on Sunday 12 July.
The ‘See Subi on Sunday’ walks are entirely researched, organised, and led by Marion, and have seen hundreds of community members explore our streets and suburbs to learn about a variety of historical topics, including local heritage areas, entertainment in Subiaco over time, and stories behind street and park names.
The walks are a way to share the area’s stories, heritage, character, and beauty in an engaging format – and no two walks are ever the same. Participants are also encouraged to share their own Subiaco stories along the way.
Mayor David McMullen congratulated Marion on this milestone.
"For 25 years through her walking tours, Marion has generously shared her time, knowledge, and passion to help people discover the stories that make Subiaco.
"On behalf of the City of Subiaco, I congratulate Marion on this remarkable milestone and thank her for her extraordinary contribution. We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated volunteers like Marion."
The City of Subiaco is proud to support the walks, which are free, and take one and a half hours to complete. Visit www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/events to read about the upcoming celebratory event and walk, and to view dates for other upcoming walks.
