A group of Year 11 students from Bob Hawke College recently visited Subiaco Library and Subiaco Museum as part of an initiative designed to introduce young people to the diverse career opportunities available within local government.

The visit forms part of Bob Hawke College’s Supported Work Experience program, which aims to create meaningful pathways into employment for students with complex learning profiles. The program encourages students to build confidence, develop workplace awareness and strengthen their connection to the community.

The City of Subiaco is one of several local governments collaborating with the school to provide students with authentic opportunities to explore a range of work environments and learn more about the roles that contribute to a thriving community.

During their visit, students took part in Baby Rhyme Time at the library, and also learned about the work of the City's Community Development team and the important role local government plays in delivering services, programs and events for residents.

The students also toured Subiaco Museum, where they explored current exhibitions and gained an insight into the many roles involved in preserving and sharing local history, including collection management, research, conservation, exhibition design, installation, storage and the importance of safeguarding historical artefacts.
