City’s annual tree planting program underway

The City’s annual tree planting program is now underway, with more than 400 new trees set to be planted across Subiaco this winter.

The program forms part of the City’s ongoing commitment to strengthening and expanding its urban forest; helping to increase tree canopy, improve biodiversity and enhance the liveability of local neighbourhoods.

New trees will be planted on verges, in parks, and throughout streetscapes across the City, contributing to cooler, greener, and more resilient public spaces.

A diverse range of species has been carefully selected to ensure the long-term health and resilience of the urban forest. All species chosen are resistant to the impacts of the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) and are better suited to Perth’s increasingly hot and dry climate conditions.

The planting program also supports local biodiversity, with a range of species being established within green corridors to provide important food sources for endangered black cockatoos, including banksias and other native flowering trees.

By increasing canopy cover and diversifying tree species, the City is helping to create a healthier urban environment that can better withstand the challenges of climate change, while providing habitat for native wildlife and enhancing the amenity of the community.
