The 1909 Subi East precinct officially opened in May 2026, with features including a new playground, water features, a memorial garden and direct access to West Perth through a revitalised Thomas Street underpass.

This project, which is located on the former Princess Margaret Hospital Site, is led by DevelopmentWA as part of the wider Subi East Redvelopment project.

The City of Subiaco have worked collaboratively with DevelopmentWA throughout the project’s development, most recently approving three road names within the precinct; Three Penny Avenue, Kite Street, and Makuru Loop.

Mayor David McMullen said, “The reopening of this part of the former PMH site marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Subi East, and the ongoing growth our City more generally.

“The City of Subiaco has engaged closely with DevelopmentWA in relation to the site, consistently advocating for the preservation of the site's heritage, the delivery of high-quality public spaces, and opportunities for the community. It is encouraging to see key heritage buildings retained as part of the redevelopment; their future activation could lead to some exciting community uses.

“We look forward to seeing the former PMH site continue to develop, and are ready to welcome new residents, workers, and visitors to our neighbourhood.”
