Story/Crafting - Author Talk and Craft-along with Emily Paull & Deb Jordan

Join us for a cosy author talk meets crafting event; work on your crafting project while hearing from authors Emily Paull and Deb Jordan!

Authors talking about their new books + crafting = a cosy match made in heaven ❤️

Join local authors and hobby craftswomen Emily Paull and Deb Jordan, who will be crocheting while chatting about their new books.

Bring along your own craft project to work on while listening. Whether it's crochet, knitting, stitching or embroidery or something else - as long as you can easily work on it while sitting in a chair, then all making is welcome.

Don't have a project on the go? Not to worry, the library will have some yarn available, and even a limited number of knitting needles available for complete beginners to begin their knitting journey. Or, visit Crossways Wool & Fabrics across the road from Subiaco Library during business hours for all your crafting needs.

Keen for more making? Subiaco Library hosts a weekly Yarn Club on Wednesdays from 9:30am-12:30pm. Or if stitching is more your thing, Subi Stitchers meet on Saturday afternoons every six weeks. We would love to see you there!

About Emily Paull

Emily Paull is a Western Australian librarian, author and book reviewer. Having formerly worked in bookselling, Emily is an avid reader and a big supporter of the WA writing community who regularly moderates author interviews around Perth. In 2019, her debut collection of short fiction, Well-Behaved Women, was published by Margaret River Press. Her novel The Distance Between Dreams was shortlisted for the 2023 Fogarty Literary Award. When she’s not writing, she can often be found with her nose in a book.

About The Distance Between Dreams

Sarah Willis longs to free herself from the expectations of a privileged upbringing, while Winston Keller can't afford the luxury of a dream. Despite their difference, the pair are drawn together in a whirlwind romance that defies the boundaries of class. But when a dark family secret pulls the young lovers apart, and WWII plunges the world into chaos, it seems impossible they will ever find their way back to each other - or even hold onto the dream of what might have been.

A heart-wrenching romance set around WWII that was shortlisted for the 2023 Fogarty Literary Award.

About Deb Jordan

Deb Jordan is a pianist, primary school teacher and pretend athlete. Perth is now home after twenty years abroad spent evading kidnap attempts in Peru, serenading African presidents, escaping a marriage trade in Ghana and circling jungle volcanoes in Costa Rica. She speaks Spanish fluently enough to be competently dangerous and likes to use her piano skills to keep the neighbours at bay. Who are, for the record, all extremely delightful. With degrees in Japanese and Russian, she dreamt of secret spy missions and international assignments. Or assignations. Semantics. Observing people, collecting ideas and always looking for the fun and adventure in life is what Deb does best. And writing. Above all else, she writes.

About The River Whispers

Two friends. One tragic accident. One deadly secret.

Sasha’s life was perfect – until the car crash that destroyed her career as a concert pianist and her friendship with Abby, the one who was driving. Consumed by grief and blame, Sasha cut Abby out of her life. But when Abby’s body is found floating in a river and a newborn baby is abandoned nearby, Sasha is thrust into a deadly mystery she can’t ignore. Set amidst the haunting beauty of Western Australia’s vineyards, The River Whispers is a gripping tale of betrayal, loss, and the fight for redemption that will keep you on edge until the final page.
