Dementia Memory Kits now available from Subiaco Library:
What is a Dementia Memory Kit?
Dementia Memory Kits are designed especially for those caring for people experiencing memory loss. They foster communication and are meant to be explored together with a caregiver or family member. Each contains items to provide opportunities for:
Prompts - materials provide prompts to engage in conversations, stimulate memories, and to provide opportunities for positive and engaging interactions.
Reminiscence - materials for sharing life experiences, memories and stories from the past. It not only brings back memories of people and places from another time, but also evokes the emotions associated with them.
Share memories - as a way of leading into a question more gently providing clues for the sorts of things you will talk about.
Action instead of words - tactile games are included in the kits.
