Children's Book Week 2022- Gabriel Evans - Session Two for Years 3-6

Celebrate Children's Book Week with Subiaco Library. Bring along Year 3 to Year 6 classes for a session with Gabriel Evans.

Come and celebrate Children's Book Week with Subiaco Library.

Each year schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. This is an opportunity to meet a well loved author and learn about the joys of writing, how to become published and where authors find their inspiration and amazing ideas.

The theme this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open... To day dream is to have dreamlike musings or fantasies while awake. What do you dream about with your eyes open?

Meet Gabriel Evans

Gabriel Evans is an Australian picture book author and illustrator who was shortlisted for the Children's Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year for Norton and the Bear. When he was younger he wanted to be a train driver, detective or children’s book illustrator. He chose the third option using a mixture of water colour, gouache, pencil and ink for his illustrations. He collects his ideas in a sketchbook he takes out with him for whenever inspiration hits. Some of his books include Ollie and Augustus, Cute Penguin and A Human for Kingley, which is a CBCA notable title for 2022.

Join Gabriel for a hands on session creating and drawing a character. Discover how Gabriel creates his characters, ideas and books. Bring along a pencil and something to lean on so you can draw your own story.
