Children's Book Week 2022- Cristy Burne - Session Three for Years 3-6

Celebrate Children's Book Week with Subiaco Library. Bring along Year 3 to Year 6 classes for a session with Cristy Burne.

Come and celebrate Children's Book Week with Subiaco Library.

Each year schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. This is an opportunity to meet a well loved author and learn about the joys of writing, how to become published and where authors find their inspiration and amazing ideas.

The theme this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open... To day dream is to have dreamlike musings or fantasies while awake. What do you dream about with your eyes open?

Meet Cristy Burne

Cristy Burne has performed in a science circus, worked as a garbage analyst, and was a reporter at CERN when they turned on the Large Hadron Collider. She has worked as a science communicator for twenty years across Australia, Japan, Switzerland, the UK, US, South Africa and beyond.

Cristy's latest books include junior fiction Beneath the Trees, CBCA Notable non-fiction Zeroes and Ones, and narrative non-fiction Aussie STEM Stars: Fiona Wood, shortlisted for the 2021 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards.

Cristy is also co-author of the science-meets-magic Wednesday Weeks series of middle grade fantasy adventures.

In this session for Year 3 to Year 6 students Cristy will touch on

  • What it's like to work as a writer
  • How non-fiction can be just as fantastical and fun as fiction
  • How to harness STEM to add fuel to your creative process
  • How Cristy creates her fiction and non-fiction children's books.
