Subiaco Museum upgrades
Subiaco Museum’s permanent exhibition space is getting its first major refurbishment since the 70s to create a more flexible space and better experience for visitors.
The museum’s back gallery is used for larger exhibitions and is home to several permanent exhibits – including a reconstructed façade of 210 Park Street.
The space is used regularly for public and educational programs including school visits, Museum Mornings and family activity days.
The refurbishment will create a more interactive, engaging and contemporary experience for visitors as well as a better environment for preserving and displaying the City’s heritage collections, and a more flexible space to deliver community programs.
Project objectives
- upgrade lighting
- create and install new interactive and engaging displays
- introduce audio-visual elements
- improve presentation of items and signage to tell the stories behind exhibits
- replace ageing cabinetry – which was originally donated in the 1980s.
In order to undertake the works, Subiaco Museum will close temporarily from
Monday 30 June to Friday 15 August. The museum’s online collection will still be accessible during this time via
Collections WA and there will be some displays in Subiaco Library during the closure period.
