Market Square infrastructure upgrades
Market Square Park is currently undergoing essential infrastructure upgrades including a power upgrade, a new vehicle access point along Roberts Road, turf maintenance and rehabilitation, and minor public artwork repairs.
Project overview
The power upgrade will include four new power bollards, which will reduce reliance on generators, making events in the park quieter and more sustainable. Additionally, the upgrade will reduce the number of overground power cords during events, minimising potential trip hazards.
A new vehicle access point has been installed along Roberts Road, just east of Axon Street, allowing for better vendor and maintenance access to the park.
Lawn amenity has been enhanced through turf rehabilitation works. This included fertiliser applications, weed maintenance, and re-turfing worn areas at Roberts Road entrance and near the playground.
The City is also investigating opportunities for enhanced lighting within the park.
Public Accessibility
The upgrades commenced on Friday 25 July. The installation of bollards will not impact public access. The park is fully open and accessible.
Project timeline

Subsurface works - Complete.
Install - Final completion of electrical upgrades is anticipated in June 2026.
