City of Subiaco elections are conducted as postal elections by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. The commission appoints a Returning Officer who oversees the elections. This includes taking candidate nominations and supervising the count on election night.
About three weeks before election day, election packages are posted to all electors on the City of Subiaco electoral rolls.
Election packages can be returned by mail, or hand delivered to a sealed ballot box at the City's Administration Centre, before 6pm on election day.
Replacement ballot papers are available for registered voters at the City’s Administration Centre.
The count commences at 6pm on election day and results are usually available later the same evening on the Western Australian Electoral Commission's website.
To be eligible to vote in City of Subiaco elections you need to be either a resident recorded on the state electoral roll, or a property or business owner recorded on the City's owner/occupier roll, if you are not a resident of the City.
The close of enrolments for the 2025 Ordinary Election will be advised in due course via the City's
public notice page.
Residents who are listed on the state electoral roll within the boundaries of the City are automatically placed on the residents' roll.
If you live in the City and are not registered on the state electoral roll, you will need to complete an enrolment form. Forms are available from post offices, the offices of the Western Australian Electoral Commission or the Australian Electoral Commission website.
The City encourages all residents to vote and have their say. To check if you are correctly enrolled on the residents' roll, visit the Western Australian Electoral Commission's website.
If you have recently moved to the district and are already on the state electoral roll, you will need to complete a change of address form to vote in City of Subiaco elections. This form can be completed on the Western Australian Electoral Commission website.
If you operate a business in Subiaco, or you own property in the City but do not live here, you may be eligible for listing on the owner/occupier roll.
To be eligible for the City’s owner/occupier roll, you must be enrolled on the state electoral roll where you live, and either own or have a right of continuous occupation under a lease tenancy agreement or other legal instrument to a property within the City of Subiaco. The right of continuous occupation must extend for at least three months.
Where two or more individuals jointly own or occupy a property, up to two of them may enrol. Where there are three or more co-owners or occupiers, written agreement from the majority must be provided.
Where a company or body corporate owns or occupies rateable land, up to two people can be enrolled to vote on its behalf.
If the same company or body corporate owns more than one property in a ward, the body is still only entitled to have two nominated persons on the roll.
Inclusion on the roll solely as a nominee for a company does not meet the eligibility criteria for nominating as a candidate.
Occupiers and occupier nominees remain on the roll for two elections after their enrolment is accepted and are taken off the roll six months after the second election. They must re-enrol if they wish to continue as electors.
Owners of rateable property remain on the roll until the relevant property passes ownership.

Saturday 18 October 2025.
Nominating to become an Elected Member of the City of Subiaco is an important decision. The role is rewarding and challenging, and can often be time consuming, demanding and complex.
Becoming an Elected Member is an opportunity to contribute to the community and influence decisions that shape the future of the district.
Nominations for 2025 will open on Thursday, 28 August 2025 and closed on Thursday, 4 September 2025.

During election periods, candidates are required to disclose the receipt or donation of a gift, where the gift is worth more than $300. The 2025 Local Government Election period commenced on 18 April 2025.
All candidates are subject to the electoral gift requirements of the Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997, including candidates who are current Council members.
Electoral gifts must be disclosed:
- within 3 days of nomination if the gift is received, made or promised prior to the candidate's nomination, or
- within 3 days of the gift being received, made or promised once the candidate has nominated.
A gift is an electoral gift if:
- the gift relates to the candidate’s candidature, and
- the value of the gift is $300 or more, or it is one of two or more gifts made by one person during the disclosure period with a total value of $300 or more.
To disclose a gift, submit a completed
Electoral Gift Disclosure Form to ceo@subiaco.wa.gov.au in accordance with the above requirements.
Details of these gifts are kept in a register which is maintained by the City for the duration of the election period and, should a candidate be successful, until their term of office has expired. Gift disclosures by unsuccesful candidates will be removed from the Electoral Gifts Register after the election date.
