The City of Subiaco held its annual Volunteering Sundowner event last week to recognise and thank its volunteers, as well as volunteers from local community organisations.
The theme for this year’s event, ‘Something for Everyone’, explored the variety of volunteering opportunities available, emphasising that there’s a place for everyone in the wonderful world of volunteering.
Sylvia Wright was honoured with the Volunteer of the Year Award, recognising almost 20 years of volunteering with the City. Sylvia currently organises the weekly Seniors Coffee Club catch-up, and is an advocate for the City’s Positive Ageing Program.
Mayor David McMullen said it was a pleasure to attend the annual volunteer appreciation event thanked the City’s volunteers whose passion and hard work creates a lasting impact.
“Each of the City’s volunteers - whether they volunteer with us directly, or with other community organisations operating within our district - play a vital role in creating community, and complementing the City's own service delivery,” he said.
“I’d like to congratulate Sylvia in particular, for her tireless efforts over the past two decades. It's a remarkable contribution.”
Almost 100 attendees turned out for the special event including volunteers from Subiaco Museum, Subi Voice of Youth, Books on Wheels, Lords community exercise program, the City’s positive ageing program and Subiaco Library.
A huge number of community groups were also celebrated such as Subiaco Walking Group, Earthwise, Wandana, Voiceworks, Yirra Yaakin, Onslow Park Tennis Club, Dress for Success WA and The Boxing Project.
