Subiaco is set to transform into one of Perth’s most sustainable style destinations this month.
From Wednesday 22 June to Sunday 26 June, See Subiaco will present The Sustainable Style Series; an immersive five-day program that features panel discussions, workshops, markets and exhibitions that encourage Subiaco shoppers and visitors to keep sustainability front of mind when buying and disposing of clothing and other worn items.
A highlight of the series is the Second Life Markets, held at Little Things Gin on Sunday 26 June. The markets will feature 18 stalls of curated, vintage, pre-loved, designer and upcycled pieces, and will also give shoppers the chance to meet designers behind a number of local brands, including Cold Wave Vintage, Wright Systems and Object House.
The series program also features several hands-on workshops, including a Cargo Upcycle Workshop at Refuge Small Bar on Saturday 25 June and Sunday 26 June. In this session, participants will learn different hand-stitching techniques that will help them turn a pair of jeans into a unique handbag.
Award-winning social enterprise start-up Fibre Economy are presenting a number of events during the series; including a discussion about responsible fashion called ‘A World Without Textile Waste’ at Dilly Dally on Thursday 23 June, and ‘RE: WASTE’, an exhibition held in the shop window of Good Sammy Subiaco from Thursday 23 June to Saturday 25 June that aims to inspire viewers to rethink the way they buy, use, and dispose of textiles.
