Subi Blooms x Gather is coming

  • Subi Blooms will be back from Friday 9 May to Sunday 11 May.
  • A large-scale interactive art installation, REFLECT by ACID.FLWRS, will take over Seddon Street from 25 April to 25 May.
  • There are a huge number of events happening for the whole family over this special weekend.
WA’s premier floral event, Subi Blooms, is returning this Mother’s Day weekend (9 to 11 May) to transform Subiaco into a wonderland of colour and art.

This year, the festival is reaching new heights through an exclusive collaboration with Gather: A Floral Community and a unified theme – ‘Roots to Bloom’.

More than 30 of Perth’s top florists will explore and express their cultural, spiritual, and physical connections to the world, while reflecting on the deeper bonds that link us to nature and our heritage.

The floral trail will be made up of 15 free installations that will transform Subi streets and local shopfronts into a living canvas of colour, creativity, and culture.

This year’s showstopper will be a large-scale, interactive installation – REFLECT by nationally-acclaimed artist, ACID.FLWRS. This immersive triptych of public art – in Seddon Street from 25 April to 25 May – is set to captivate visitors of all ages, inviting people to step inside to reflect or take part in a nostalgic childhood game.

Subi Blooms x Gather will feature exciting new attractions, including a fresh flower vending machine, and a curated events program will offer floral workshops and artist talks.

There will also be a number of special events for the whole family such as Native Wonderland, a hands-on multi-generational sensory play experience with the Freedom Fairies; and Branch & Blossom, a dried flower wall hanging workshop.

The newly introduced Gather Village will offer exclusive festival merchandise, fresh flowers, and a foodie pop-up hub.

As always, sustainability is a key element of Subi Blooms with the event this year making the switch from floral foam to an eco-friendly compostable alternative (Sideau).

At weekend's end, all remaining blooms will be repurposed into beautifully curated bouquets, which will be gifted to new and expectant mothers at King Edward Memorial Hospital and St John of God, Subiaco. Subiaco Primary School students will be decorating the paper that these bouquets will be gifted in.

To celebrate the theme, ‘Roots to Bloom’, the City is looking for photos and stories of you and your loved ones who were born in Subi. Submissions will be projected onto the Subiaco Library exterior as part of the Subi Blooms x Gather festival. Find out how to get involved here.

Subi Blooms is presented by See Subiaco, a City of Subiaco initiative.
