The Subiaco Museum is shaking off winter in a big way, unveiling a host of new exhibits and activities just in time for spring.
The front gallery has been refreshed and transformed into an interactive Subiaco General Store and school space.
Designed with little hands in mind, this playful environment invites children to explore and engage with historical settings in a fun and educational way.
During the upcoming school holidays, find out what a zoetrope and magic lantern are while exploring a variety of fascinating exhibits in the main gallery which will be focussed on all things moving pictures.
The team is also delighted to announce several new additions to the general collection:
- A metal train set: This charming set, generously donated by Debbie Bayford of Shenton Park, was crafted by the renowned Alexander Douglas Sedgwick. It beautifully complements the museum’s extensive collection of Sedgwick’s items and tools, including a stunning sailing boat currently on display in the Museum Shop. It will be on display by October.
- Victorian era walnut writing desk: A magnificent Victorian walnut writing desk, complete with numerous drawers and hidey holes. It will be dressed with items from the 1800s, providing a fun and interactive challenge for guests to find and explore.
- ‘New’ furniture: The team is expecting the arrival of a sideboard from the early 1900s and a Victorian Canterbury magazine holder, which will be integrated into displays soon.
Subiaco Museum hosts regular free events for people of all ages; upcoming events for your calendar include:
Come the end of September, the museum will be showcasing one of Paddy Baker’s projectors from Subiaco’s very own Regal Theatre.
This iconic piece will be the Object of the Month for October, coinciding with the Museum Mornings talk, so you to see a key artifact from cinema history up close and personal.
The team at Subiaco Museum are looking forward to welcoming you this spring for a memorable visit.
