Subiaco Library celebrated the luck of the Irish with a special Harmony Storytime session in Gaeilge on Wednesday afternoon.
Aimed at children aged three to twelve, the session involved singing some rhymes, enjoying a story in Gaeilge, led by Hilary Price from the School of Musical Heartbeats, and getting creative with a St Patrick’s Day-themed shamrock crafting activity.
Maggie Twomey, the City’s Acting Coordinator Community Development who is originally from Ireland, said the Library’s Harmony Storytime sessions are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Subiaco’s cultural diversity, and encourage kids to hear words, sounds and songs in different languages.
Maggie said, “There is a strong and connected Irish community here in Subiaco, and sharing songs and stories is deeply rooted in our culture.
“This storytime is a fun way to introduce kids to Irish songs, stories and crafts, and encourages them to celebrate Ireland in the run-up to St Patrick’s Day.”
Subiaco Library’s Harmony Storytime sessions take place on the first Wednesday of each month, from 3.30pm to 4pm. Previous sessions have included stories in Noongar, Mandarin, and French, and the next session on Wednesday 5 April will be a Ukranian Storytime.
