The West Subiaco Precinct is renowned for its original architecture and heritage buildings and is set to be showcased in all its glory at an upcoming heritage walk.
Community members are invited to a free walking tour of the precinct, guided by heritage expert, Annette Green on Saturday 16 October from 10am to 12pm.
Participant’s will learn how the precinct’s traditional buildings and streetscapes help to illustrate the emergence of West Subiaco from bushland at the turn of the century to its gradual consolidation over time.
The precinct is the area bounded by Nicholson Road to the south, the railway reserve to the west, Bagot Road to the north and follows the rear boundaries of properties on the western side of Rokeby Road.
Mayor Penny Taylor said Subiaco’s history and heritage was unique and to be admired.
“The West Subiaco Precinct has many places of interest and this walking tour is a great way to celebrate them,” she said.
“The area boasts original architecture, significant buildings and fascinating hidden stories. The precinct, like all of our precincts, has helped shape the City of Subiaco.”
Annette Green has worked in conservation planning for over thirty years and has supported the City through research and guidance on heritage matters for some time.
“The heritage walk will interpret the physical evidence, with the personal stories of some of the early developers, builders and residents adding a human dimension to the bricks and mortar,” Annette said.
