These July school holidays, Subiaco Library is hosting a series of free writing workshops for school-aged kids with notable local authors.
The workshops provide a timely opportunity for students to get creative and think about their story ideas for the 2024 Craig Silvey Award for Young Writers, which is open for entries from Friday 19 July.

Power in Picture Books with Tracey Dembo
Tuesday 2 July, 10am to 12pm, Subiaco Library.
Join Tracey Dembo, author of 'This Book is a Time Machine' and 'An A to Z of Dreaming Differently' in this workshop about the art of picture book making. Learn how to come up with awesome ideas and to use words and pictures to build stunning stories.

Creating Convincing Characters with Rebecca Higgie
Thursday 11 July, 1pm to 2pm, Subiaco Library
Learn how to create strong, three-dimensional characters that leap off the page in this workshop with award-winning author Rebecca Higgie. From character motivation to their role in the story, you'll go through all the important elements to make your characters believable and engaging. Suitable for kids aged 8 and up.
