Pop-up community space coming to Subiaco

An exciting pop-up community space is coming to Subiaco this autumn to help support local businesses, increase vibrancy, and create somewhere for people to relax and connect.

Subiaco Pop-up Square will feature an array of exciting events and activations including acoustic music sessions, light projections, garden workshops, a community art project, mini golf, and more.

There will also be plenty of time for people to come and enjoy the space without scheduled activities, whether that’s relaxing with a coffee or meeting up with friends to enjoy the autumn sun.

The square will be in place for six weeks, over which time the community can give their feedback on the initiative, potentially inspiring similar projects in the future.

Subiaco Pop-up Square is being delivered by the City in partnership with RAC, through its Reconnect WA initiative, which aims to create vibrant streets and public spaces for Western Australians to interact and connect.

RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said RAC is proud to support projects which bring new energy and vibrancy to our communities.

“We are very excited to partner with the City of Subiaco through our Reconnect WA initiative to create a new and vibrant place where locals and visitors can relax, connect and socialise.

“The Subiaco Pop-up Square will host events and activations, temporarily transforming part of Churchill Avenue near Rokeby Road into a lively community space in the heart of Subiaco.

“The six-week project is inspired by feedback from the local community and we hope it will help lay the foundations for longer-term changes which support safer, sustainable and connected communities.”

Subiaco Mayor Penny Taylor said Subiaco Pop-up Square was a welcome initiative with RAC.

“Our community asked for a project like this through our Place Plan and we’ve listened,” she said.

Local business owners, residents and workers are being asked to help to shape the design of the space through a series of workshops.

Subiaco Pop-up Square will be open from Thursday 25 March to Sunday 9 May.
