Rokeby Road is heading back in time with the installation of iconic heritage photos on several of the median strip planter boxes.
The City of Subiaco Council endorsed a four-month trial in December 2021 to see the planter boxes vinyl-wrapped with heritage photographs that display iconic Subiaco locations and community groups in the early 1900s.
The trial, which will commence this month and activate 19 planter boxes between Bagot and Barker Roads, also commemorates the
125 year anniversary for the City of Subiaco becoming a municipality.
The turn-of-the-century photographs that feature on the boxes have been sourced from the archives of the State Library of Western Australia and the Subiaco Museum. They feature locations including the entrance to Kings Park and the Subiaco Train Station, and local community groups including the Subiaco Volunteer Fire Brigade and a local women’s tennis club.
The wrapped planter boxes will serve as an engaging visual reminder for residents and visitors about the area’s storied past.
The Rokeby Road planter boxes were installed in 2016, and were previously wrapped in vinyl prints by a local artist in 2021 as part of the Subiaco Street-Side Gallery.
This planter box wrap trial will commence on 18 July and end in mid-November. The City will be seeking feedback from the community on the initiative via the
