Our diverse community celebrated

Students from Perth Modern School’s sexuality and gender alliance, and LGBTQIA+ community members and allies celebrated International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) today in Subiaco with a special event run by the City.

Those who came along painted a temporary giant chalk rainbow on the walkway directly outside the City’s Administration Centre to celebrate and appreciate our diverse community, raise awareness of the importance of equality, and champion inclusivity in schools and workplaces.

Minority sexuality and gender identities, and people who are intersex, can face negative attitudes, stereotypes and prejudices that lead to discrimination, exclusion, harassment and violence.

These attitudes are often the basis for unfair treatment, harassment, abuse and violence towards LGBTQIA+ people and IDAHOBIT is about people across the world standing up against this hate and calling for positive social change.

More information on how you can be an ally.
