A pre-booked bulk green waste collection, provided by the Western Metropolitan Regional Council, was given the green light at the Ordinary Council Meeting last night.
The City currently provides three bulk green waste collections, on set dates, per year.
Less than 5 per cent of the City’s green waste is collected during these bulk pickups, with the other 95 per cent collected from the City’s weekly FOGO bin service.
The transition to an on-demand service permits residents to select bulk green waste pick-up dates that suit them, and can better accommodate for seasonal gardening like annual rose pruning.
An on-demand service is also a more environmentally sustainable option for the City, as it will see trucks travel to specific verges to complete pickups, rather than traversing all City streets and laneways in search of green waste to collect.
Stay tuned on the City’s website for more information about the service and when it will become available.
