A new 47-bay carpark will soon be open to the public off Hay Street, increasing all-day public parking in the area.
The carpark is only a short walk away from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Lords Recreation Centre and has not been available to the public since the 1980s after it was licensed to a private landowner.
As well as increasing public parking the area, the move will help ease parking pressure on surrounding residential streets and help generate revenue which can be reinvested back into the community through infrastructure upgrades, cultural and diversity programs, assisting the City’s community groups and clubs, and more.
The carpark is expected to open to the public by 1 February 2022 and will be all-day parking 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with a $10 per day maximum (or $1.50 per hour).
Parking will be free every evening after 5pm and all weekend long.
