On Sunday 23 October, a team of staff from Lords Recreation Centre hopped on their bikes to compete in the HBF Fitness Challenge to raise funds for Telethon.
The challenge required participants to complete a non-stop six-hour bike ride, and the Lords team, comprised of Aleisha, Roxy, Juliana, Michael, Gabby, Trish, Fleur, Louise and Elly, were rostered to share the work over two bikes.
The team managed to ride a total of 304 kilometres, and raise $10,308 for Telethon.
Each of the Lords team members had their own reasons to get involved this year.
“My best friend’s baby has cancer. They are fighting every day and staying incredibly strong in spite of the terribly difficult situation. I sometimes feel powerless about it, so if I can help by riding a bike, I will do it for sure.” – Roxy.
“I wanted to get involved as doing something so small for the community can go such a long way. Not only does it benefit the people we are fundraising for, but also has a huge impact on the people volunteering and builds the comradery of our team.” – Elly.
“I feel extremely grateful to have encouragement from the wonderful Lords team, and a body that will allow me to participate in this challenge. That’s a privilege not everyone has.” – Juliana.
Along with the fitness challenge, the Lords team also held a special RPM cycle class last week, where all participants who donated to Telethon would go into the draw to win a pair of Apple AirPods.
