Local volunteer finalist in WA Heritage Awards

City of Subiaco volunteer, Marion Gathercole, has been named as finalist in the 2021 WA Heritage Awards for her significant contribution to the promotion and understanding of cultural heritage in the community.

Marion has been running the popular See Subi on Sunday walking tours for more than 20 years, helping to share Subiaco’s stories, history, heritage, character and beauty.

The walks provide an opportunity for people to learn, connect, share and discover the important heritage that contributes so much to the fabric of the City, and to recognise and value our links with the past.

Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said the popularity of the walks had endured in no small part due to Marion’s creativity and inspiration.

“No two walks are ever the same and with more than 120 walks under her belt, that’s a huge achievement,” he said.

“The amount of research, time, passion and enthusiasm that goes into each and every walk is exceptional, and her contribution and dedication to promoting and sharing a deeper understanding of our local cultural heritage is outstanding.

“We’re very lucky to have Marion as part of our community and we wish her the best of luck at the ceremony.”

The City nominated Marion in the category of: “An individual who has made a significant voluntary contribution to the conservation, promotion and/or understanding of cultural heritage in the community”.

The WA Heritage Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 19, 2021.
