Jolimont Primary School students put sustainability first

At a very special assembly last week, students at Jolimont Primary School came together to showcase their passion for sustainability.

On the day, students put on an encore of their Generation Restoration presentation for guests from the City of Subiaco and Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC), emphasising the sentiment that you’re never too young to make a positive difference.

The event highlighted the sustainability programs currently in full swing at the WasteSorted-accredited school – from the ‘waste-free lunch’ initiative, which aims to reduce plastic waste, to the farm garden initiative that turns food scraps into compost and worm food.

A grant from the WasteSorted Schools Program has also seen a recycling station installed for students to use.

The assembly was an opportunity to recognise the individual contributions of the students and teachers in these initiatives, who were presented with certificates for their efforts.

With the arrival of new FOGO bins, the program will focus on educating students about their use. The school is also hoping to plant a bushtucker garden next year.
