Harmony Week celebrations

To mark Harmony Week 2025 (17 to 23 March), the City is hosting a number of events that celebrate the diverse cultures, stories and traditions that make up our vibrant community.

Harmony Week recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds; it’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

A free outdoor movie night, Harmony Under the Stars, on Saturday 22 March will be perfect for the whole family.

It’s taking place at the Subi Night Markets in Market Square Park and will include entertainment such as a lion dance performance, henna art, Aboriginal face painting, games, prizes and more – all before the sunsets and the movie starts.

Pack a picnic, bring a mat or low chairs and enjoy some free popcorn or purchase dinner from one of the delicious food trucks at the markets.

Join us for a community talk by the Red Cross at The Third Place, where we’ll explore the topic of forced migration and international displacement. This session will cover:
  • The differences between asylum seekers and refugees
  • The Red Cross' role in supporting migration
  • The global context of forced displacement and human rights
  • Australia’s role in humanitarian settlement
  • How we can better support the experiences of new arrivals
The talk is free and is at 6pm on Monday 17 March at 6pm – book your spot today here.

Keep an eye on the City’s social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) across Harmony Week for Subi Stories – a series celebrating some of our community members’ unique journeys and family experiences.

If you miss the action during Harmony Week or are after more, the City’s library has a number of regular events on throughout the year that explore our diverse community, encourage acceptance and learning about other cultures, and celebrate our community’s unique stories.

These including English Conversation Club, Languages Other Than English book collection, Noongar Language course, special Storytimes, e-resources in Languages Other Than English, and more. Head to the City’s event calendar for more.
