Gold for the City in waterwise program

The City of Subiaco has been recognised as a Gold Waterwise Council once more, as part of the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Council Program.

The City has been a waterwise Council since 2011 and was one of the first Councils to achieve gold recognition back in 2016.

Notable waterwise actions implemented by the City over the years include the Waterwise Verge Rebate Program which offers residents rebates of up to $500, plus free workshops with gardening experts, to help them replace their verge with native, waterwise plants.

The City has also implemented initiatives such as:
  • eco-zoned gardens throughout the City’s parks
  • a living stream in Cliff Sadlier Park
  • floating islands in Subiaco Common Lake
  • various large-scale greening projects such as the Duke Street raingardens
  • installation of bioswales at Jersey Street Reserve and Mabel Talbot
  • collaborations with local schools to improve biodiversity and water filtration
  • regular community planting events using native plants that require little water to thrive.
The Water Corporation recognised and commended the City’s proactive approach to enhancing waterway health and restoring natural assets, including works to improve water quality and remove invasive species.

The City will once again be taking part in the annual Native Plant Subsidy Scheme this May to help residents beautify their garden with waterwise native species. Keep an eye on the City’s website or social media for more information.
