A new exhibition at Subiaco Museum is showcasing some of the ways in which the Subiaco community pulled together in the past to support the war efforts.
It looks into Voluntary Aid Detachments (VAD), air-raid wardens and other ways which locals served and contributed to meet the needs of those fighting overseas.
The community effort that went into the building of the Clock Tower War Memorial is one of many stories told along with the stories of school children collecting 50,000 metal bottle tops and stamps.
Other highlights include a register from the Subiaco branch of the Australian Red Cross used for recording knitted items made for soldiers and items from local woman, Ethel Maud Bonsey, who was the foundress of the Western Australia VAD branch.
Subiaco RSL’s replica of the Kings Park war memorial is also showcased.
The exhibition opened to coincide with ANZAC Day and will be on display until the end of May.
