City to host first Community Connect Expo

More than 20 local organisations and volunteer groups will take over the Palms Community Centre on Saturday 21 February as part of the City of Subiaco’s first Community Connect Expo.

During the event, people can discover volunteering opportunities, learn about the grant opportunities, and take part in fun activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Stallholders include Deserving Better WA, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, The Subiaco Men’s and Women’s sheds, Diabetes WA, the Onslow Park Tennis Club, Lotterywest, and more.

On the lawn outside the centre, there will be performances by the Wandana Community Association choir, a dance from the Hindi Samaj of Western Australia, and a gymnastics demonstration by the Subiaco Police and Community Youth Centre.

There will also be interactive sessions with the Western Metropolitan Recycling Centre, the Subiaco Petanque Club, face painting with the Freedom Fairies and more.

Mayor David McMullen said, “Strong communities are built on connection. This event will shine a light on the fantastic work of Subiaco’s local organisations and community groups. It will be a chance for them to connect with people in our community, and with each other.”

The expo is funded by a grant Subiaco Library received for ‘community cohesion’ projects that are programmed to encourage a sense of belonging within the Subiaco community.
